Subject: Opportunity for Your Students: Q&A with Senior NATO Leader
Dear Prof. Karaganov,
I would like to invite you and your students to take part in our Q&A session on "Women, Peace and Security" with NATO's Assistant
Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Ambassador Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. We would greatly appreciate it if you could
forward this invitation to your undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students or other professors and professionals that may be interested.
This week will witness the 12th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which urged all states and international
organizations to increase the participation of women in peace and security efforts. The situation facing women today was brought to
the front pages recently when a 14-year old Pakistani girl was shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating girls education. According
to the United Nations, the number of women killed in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011 increased by 29 percent. So while security is not
equality, it is required to ensure women's rights.
Ambassador Grabar-Kitarovic has recorded a video statement about the role of women from the corridors of NATO to Afghanistan and the countries of the Arab Spring:

This is an exciting opportunity for your students to hear directly from the first woman ever to be appointed Assistant Secretary
General of NATO about the Alliance's efforts to promote women's rights and implement UNSCR 1325.
